Ángel Rodríguez-Díaz was a Puerto Rican artist known for his impactful and socially engaged portraiture. Born in San Juan, he moved to New York City in 1978 and earned his MFA from Hunter College. In 1995, he relocated to San Antonio, Texas, where he continued his artistic practice. His work, often reflecting his experiences as a gay Latino of African, Taíno, and Spanish descent, celebrates cultural diversity and challenges stereotypes. Rodríguez-Díaz’s work is included in prominent collections, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum and El Museo del Barrio. Recent acquisitions include the San Antonio Museum of Art and the City of San Antonio’s Permanent Collection.
