Jesus Treviño’s work is rooted in his upbringing on the U.S./Mexican borderlands, exploring loss and the lingering emotional residues of unnatural boundaries. He reflects on the capacity of the land to hold traces of unresolved tensions caused by movements and displacement that have shaped his identity, which continues to evolve, fade, and reassemble. Treviño incorporates disruption, concealment, and layering to reveal stories unearthed beneath the surface of unstable and agitated paintings. Drawing from family photos, social media, personal archives, and articles, Treviño rediscovers and preserves histories, combining materials and techniques to express the importance of keeping these narratives alive.
